Health Testing

As responsible and ethical breeders we want the very best for our puppies, we perform health testing which is of a much higher standard than Kennel Club requirements.  Not all Australian Labradoodles are created equally but here at Ripley's we take health testing incredibly seriously and we would never breed from a dog which failed their health testing.

Hip Scoring

We X-ray all our breeding dogs for hip scoring and X-rays are sent to BVA for scoring. We will not breed for any dog that does not have a good hip score.

Elbow Scoring

We X-ray all our breeding dogs for Elbow scoring and X-rays are sent to BVA for scoring. The grading is 0-3, zero being the best. We will not breed from any dog that does has a score of 3.

Eye Testing

We test all our breeding dogs for hereditary eye disease.

Exercise-Induced Collapse - EIC

Exercise-induced collapse is an inherited neuromuscular disorder affecting several breeds of dog. Genetic testing can determine if a dog is a carrier of EIC. For a dog to be affected they must receive two copies of the mutated gene (one from each parent). We will never breed from a puppy that is affected by EIC.

Degenerative Myelopathy - DM

Degenerative myelopathy is an inerited neurologic disorder. This mutation is found in many breeds of dogs. DM is inherited in an Autosomal Recessive manner which means that they must receive two copies of the mutated gene (one from each parent).

Von Willebrand - VWD

Von Eillebrand Disease VWD is an inherited bleeding disorder affecting many breeds of dogs. Dogs affected may bruise easily and have frequent nosebleeds and experience prolonged bleeding after surgery. Affected dogs may not be identified until a surgery is performed or they have a trauma. Most dogs will have a normal lifespan despite increased blood clotting times. To be affected dogs must receive one copy of this mutated gene from both parents.

Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis - HNPK

Hereditary nasal parakeratosis is an inherited disease affecting the nose of dogs. Beginning around 6-12 months the affected dog develops dry, rough crusts and sometimes painful cracks on the tip of the nose. Dogs must inherit two copies (one from each parent) to be affected with this gene mutation.

Progressive Retinal Atrophy - PRA

Progressive retinal Atrophy is an inherited eye disease. PRA-prcd is a late onset, inherited eye disease resulting in degeneration of both rod and cone type photoreceptor cells of the retina. To be affected dogs must inherit a copy of the mutated gene from both parents.

Familial Nephropathy - FN

Familial nephropathy is an inherited disorder affecting the kidneys. Dogs with this disease normally start showing symptoms of chronic kidney disease between 6 months and 2 years. Both parents need to give one copy of the mutate gene for the dog to be affected by this disease.
